Doyle Brunson Dissaproves of Phil Helmuth as Caesar
The both players engaged in a conversation in which Doyle Brunson criticized Hellmuth’s flashy entry to the event. If you cannot recall it, Hellmuth showed up at the WSOPE Main Event with slave girls, centurions and himself dressed as Caesar – just as he did at the WSOP in Las Vegas a few months ago.
The poker legend made it clear that he could not agree with the “grand entry” in this recorded conversation:
Brunson: Tell me the truth, are you embarrassed at all?
Hellmuth: Not at all.
Brunson: Not at all? I’m embarrassed for you.
Hellmuth: Doyle, I thought you of all people would be proud of it, knowing that it’s putting money in your pocket
Brunson: Making a circus out of a poker game?
Hellmuth: Are you kidding me? I add a little drama, a little theatre to the game.
Brunson: If people want to go to the theatre, they go to the theatre.
Hellmuth: I’ll ask you one quick question. Do you think it’s bad for poker when I show up like that?
Brunson: Yes.
