MIAMI, FL (Marketwire), Friday, March 26, 2010 – To celebrate Annie Duke’s historic win at the 2010 National Heads Up Poker Championship (”NHUPC”), UB.com launches a monthly $1000+50 buy-in Heads Up tournament this Sunday, March 28th at 13:00 ET, to be hosted by Team UB’s Duke. With a guaranteed prize pool of $128,000 on the table and a bounty on Duke’s head, now’s the time for poker players to take a swing at the champ, and walk away with a share of thousands of dollars in prize money while banking some serious bragging rights.

“I am thrilled that UB is introducing this new, monthly Heads Up event. The higher buy-in events on UB have been so successful and the market for them continues to grow,” said  UB’s Card Room Consultant Annie Duke. “Adding this exciting heads up format to the high limit mix is a great sign that UB continues to tweak the tournament schedule to give players what they want.”

Duke, the first woman ever to win the NHUPC, will host the monthly Heads Up event, scheduled on the last Sunday of every month at 13:00 ET at UB.com. Players can face-off against the newly crowned queen of the cards each month in the $128K GTD Heads Up Match in two ways:  they can pony up the $1000+50 to buy in directly, participate in one of the many daily satellites with a buy-in of $100+9  starting at 16:10 ET,  or try their luck in one of the cheaper qualifiers from as little as $8+.80, which kick off at 10:30 ET every day.

Take a shot at dethroning the 2010 National Heads Up Poker Champion in this Sunday’s inaugural $128K GTD Heads Up Match, and the lucky player who manages to ‘K.O.’ Duke  wins a $500+30 seat at the following Sunday’s $200K Guaranteed tournament at the leading online poker site Ultimate Bet .

During April and May, to coincide with the April 18th debut of the NBC NHUPC broadcast schedule, UB will also be giving away 4 seats to each of the April 25th and May 30th $128K GTD Heads Up Matches. Two of these special satellite seats per month will be awarded via  two  freeroll events, with the other pair up for grabs in two $1 buy-in events. If a player qualifies for the Heads Up Match by any one of these four events, and then goes on to send Duke to the rails, they will win the usual Duke bounty of the $200K GTD tournament entry, plus pocket $1500 in tournament dollars.

Duke bested a 64-player field that was riddled with the biggest names in poker to earn her remarkable National Heads Up victory. With this year’s NHUPC title  and the half-million dollar prize money added to her career highlights, the UB Pro  has reasserted herself as Poker’s most visible woman in the game.

Online poker players looking for a piece of the Annie Duke Heads Up action should check the “Events” Tab in the UB.com tournament lobby, with qualifiers listed in the “Satellites” Tab.

Annie Duke

Annie Duke

The NBC National Heads Up Championship has come to an end and it was professional poker player Annie Duke who made history by becoming the first woman to win this competition in the history of poker.

Annie Duke played against recognized poker pro Erik Seidel in the final heads-up. She bested Seidel and went home with $500,000 and the title.

The NBC National Heads Up Championship invites only the biggest names in poker to play several rounds of heads-up No Limit Holdem matches until one player emerges victorious from the whole field.

Apart from this title, Annie Duke has an impressive number of accomplishments in her poker resume. She is currently the best female poker player, she holds 1 WSOP bracelet, she has made it to 15 final tables at the WSOP and has cashed 37 times at various events there too.

She currently represents widely known poker room Ultimate Bet and she is a great ambassador of humanitarian work and charity poker tournaments.

Even though the NBC National Heads Up Championship is not considered one of the most skill-based events in the poker world, it is a great chance to see the best poker players in the world come together in exciting matches.
