amFAR Charity Poker Tournament a Success
Some of the attendees include professional poker players Joe Cada, Humberto Brenes, former professional tennis player Boris Becker, former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, model Joana Krupa and former professional hockey star Mats Sundin.
The event had a $5,250 buy-in and it was filmed for television and beamed across cyberspace through EPTlive. The tournament’s format was a shootout and had 39 players sitting on four tables; they all had initial stacks of 50,000 chips. The last two standing from each table would then go the final table in which players would receive 50,000 chips each again to start final table play.
amfAR has been dedicated to AIDS research since 1985 and they have invested almost $290 million and has awarded grants to nearly 2,000 research teams around the world. The tournament contributed to a very noble cause, with fifty percent of the prize pool going to amfAR, and players were encouraged to donate 1% of their winnings as well.
